Fallon Paiute Shoshone Tribe is Hiring an Environmental Specialist Near Fallon, NV

POSITION DESCRIPTION

The Environmental Specialist performs specific objectives and work plan activities under established environmental grants, assists the Environmental Director in management duties, planning and administration of environmental protection, and HAZMAT activities. This is a high-demand position on a salary scale; therefore overtime is not available to the position recipient. Duration of this position is based on current and future funding availability.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Will be expected to develop an expertise in environmental air, water, soils, solid waste, and HAZMAT issues of the Fallon Tribe

2. Works in priority areas to gather, interpret data and write reports

3. Establish effective working relationships with the Tribal staff and technical staff of various agencies

4. Coordinates and assists with environmental and emergency response grant funding proposals for new sources of funding as well as ongoing grants, as directed by the Tribal Council.

5. Coordinates and assists with other Tribal environmental and emergency interests.

6. Attends meetings and training which affect Tribal environmental and emergency interests.

7. Provides written reports to the Director on activities, projects, training, and meetings

8. Assists in developing training materials for distribution of Tribal membership

9. Assist with the development of emergency operation plans for distribution of Tribal members

10. Assists with investigation of complaints concerning environmental problems and negative environmental situations on the reservation

11. The successful candidate is responsible for all hardware and software to which they are assigned

12. Other job related duties as assigned by the supervisor

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

1. Possess a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in environmental science, earth science, life science or other related fields of study; or

2. An equivalent combination of college education and formal training experience in an environmental and emergency response field, which would indicate the ability to perform the duties as described above

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

(To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. 1. Must have technical and analytical skills to interpret technical environmental reports and data

2. Must also have knowledge of Indian communities and their organizational structure and basic understanding of Indian law principles

3. Must work with minimal supervision and work in a professional manner

4. Must be able and willing to travel extensively for training, workshops, conferences, etc.

5. Must attend some after work-hour meetings

6. Must be reliable

7. Good judgment and personal initiative are important

8. Must possess very good written and oral communication skills

9. Must possess IBM computer skills and work with Windows-based programs including word-processing, spreadsheets, and databases.

10. Must be able to write and administer program grants and complete programs in a timely manner.
